Touchblue

Skewering hip hop videos isn’t that hard. Many are so predictable they deflate in the presence of any humor at all. But comedy troupe Touchblue, made up of four fast-talking Filipino goofballs, detonate B2K’s “Bump Bump Bump” so completely and so skillfully the viewer is left in a helpless giggling puddle. The tea partying, marching-band moves, and extreme throbbing nostril close-up are typical Touchblue maneuvers, executed with impressive physical discipline and deadpan delivery. Also, the guys are not that hard to look at, which, let’s face it, doesn’t hurt the overall effect. Parodies are one of the group’s specialties; see YouTube for a Mentos commercial, a Jackass moment, and a gob of music-video mangling called “Terry’s Mega Hitz.” Maybe even better, though, is a sketch that makes us think of Saturday Night Live back when it was good: The couch-dude absurdity of “Knight School,” which veers from the predictable into some fried chicken. Touchblue performs at Flow the Buck Up, a festival of performance that also includes music by Sepiatone and Innokenty, hip hop theater by Anthem Salgado, and more.
