SOLEMATES

February 13, 2007 by Francis Lansang

Now that we have been brought to church, let us speak on our blessed soles.
We’ve all got stories to share; praises to ring, relationships good and bad, love we had to part with and the hope of reuniting with their retros. All are encouraged to contribute. We are in righteous space. No judgement shall be passed and nothing is confidential.

WHO WILL TESTIFY?!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————-

YES I WILL!
When I was in the 3rd grade, I taped a party popper- those plastic party favors you flip inside out so they pop up in the air (also good for artificial hickeys)- to my Reeboks and made my own Pumps.

:That is customization 101 right there… TESTIFY!

I AM A SHOEAHOLIC
I can’t stop submerging my nose into new shoes and taking in that wonderful scent. I’ve been hooked since 1993. It was a pair of V’s that bit me.
Look, Fresh Kicks!

:SPEAK ON IT BROTHA!

UGGAIN
All white patent leather and she didn’t give me her number…
We were at a Prom themed party for our friend’s 25th. She was standing on the steps and was wearing a black and gray faux-fur vest, black leggings and black UGGs. I caught a quick glimpse, allegedly cute, then caught her eye and flashed my grillz. What real lady can turn down shiny grillz dressed in a baby blue ruffle shirt, with black old skool Rolls Royce cufflinks. A black crush velvet sport coat, a white bow tie topped by some bayviators. Oh yeah, white wristbands, white headband and a white cumberbun. Simply irresistible.

She was obviously flattered, so she politely ended her conversation and made her way down the steps knowing damn well she was jockin’ my shoes. She positioned herself behind me and started a conversation with the dude behind me. The team’s game was tight that night, really really. I had only had a couple a swigs from the champagne bottle in celebration of my buddy getting accepted into pharmacy school, so it was a great night to celebrate.

She and I engaged in a brief conversation about our connections to the party, followed by the use’; schooling and professions. She graduated from a school in southern California and works in an office at Neiman Marcus. There was iPod shuffling, attempted dancing and again, more brief conversation.

I stepped away to think of what to say (Golden rule of the shoe game: Thou shall just doeth)

Rules of the shoe game:

Though shall just doeth.
Remembereth, impossible is nither.
Stumble downward 7 times, arise up 8 and Now we are so happy, we do the dance of Joy!

… then checked on the homies and got a chance to greet the birthday boy. The man had on a white three-piece suit. Play on playa, hope you enjoyed your celebration.

After forgetting her name and sending my homie on the retrieval mission, I was ready for the close. She was on her way out, so I reacted on my toes. (This may have blown it. Coupled with the facts that there were a bunch of people around and I was pretty loud.)

“So can I have your number?”

“I don’t think so.”

Slight panic, deep breath “Let’s go have lunch.”

“That would be nice.”

Nice???
I let go of the force.
For a flash in time, I let go of the force.

All white patent leather.

Never let go. Never again.
And sadly, I lost my bayviators… Wherever they are, may they always stun and protect from harmful UV rays.

When one suffers, we all suffer. SHINE ON!
